Koufinisi locals are famous for their mirth. Here, any small reason is more than enough in order to set up a feast. On the 23rd of April, on the day of Agios Georgios, the "panigyras" makes the island's tour keeping the saints icon in his hands, while all the fishing boats of the island accompany him by sailing the coast. In the evening a big feast takes place. On the 15th of August, all residents  sail with their fishing boats to Kato Koufonisi for the festival of Panagia, where after the church mass a rich dinner is offered with fish, lamb and kid. On their return, a speed competition takes place between the fishing boats and a feast follows under the sounds of violins. On the 6th of December, on the day of Agios Nikolaos, after the church mass, marine titbits and cooked raki (liqueur with raki, honey and herbs) are offered - a very tasty start for the feast that will follow. The period of Easter is celebrated with great zest. The procession of the epitaph takes place in a harbou illuminated with torches and at the moment of Resurrection, the entire island is rocked by fireworks.
