Local Products

The kopanisti of Mykonos with its peper flavour is also famous outside the island. Particularly popular is the small round cheese from goat or sheep's milk that is eaten fresh or “hard”. Products that are based on local homemade tradition and are related with choirosfagia  are the local sausages, that are of pork meat, which are let to dry in the sun and are kept in salt. They contain many spices and aromatic herbs, such as throumpi and fennel. Louzes is a particular Mykonos dish with pork filet. The pork meat is set into the thick intestine of a pig and then is let to sun dry. Selected choirosfagia titbits are the “paida”  fried with eggs, the “choirokefali”, the “azonaras”, the “sisera”  or “syglina”, the “glina”  (grease for frying) etc.

An exceptional local pastry that is prepared in domestic kitchen but also by local pastry workshops, are the marzipans, which are offered to marriages and baptisms.
